SEN

The Children and Families Act gained royal assent in March 2014 for implementation in September 2014. Its main aims are to:

•  Give parents control – Parents will be at the heart of decisions made about their child and feel confident that support will be put in place.
• Prepare for adulthood – All young people will make a successful transition to adulthood and enjoy making a full contribution to society.
•  Improve choice, control and outcomes for children and young people through the use of personal budgets and direct payments.

At the centre of the reforms is the Education, Health and Care plan; building on the current Statement of Special Educational Needs, this document details the outcomes expected for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities and the provision necessary to achieve these.
