Open the Book
What is Open the Book?
Open the Book...Enables every child to hear the stories of the Bible during their Primary School years.
Here at Ivington we are extremely fortunate to have a team of volunteers, from Leominster Priory Church, who come out each week to deliver Bible stories to the children during their Collective Worship on a Thursday afternoon.
Our aim is to deliver the stories in an imaginative and enjoyable way, and it is tremendous fun! Key Stage 2 children all have the opportunity to take an active role, dressing up and acting out their part enthusiastically. Over their time at Primary School the children will get to hear the selection of stories twice. The stories work through on a three-year cycle. The audience also have their part to play in responding after a specific cue.
Each session begins with our special Open the Book hand gesture, and we go through the children’s required responses before the story begins.
The leader then introduces the story and offers a conclusion and quiet moment for reflection once the story has finished. After that one of the children reads a prayer, to which everyone is invited to respond with: an Amen if they would like to make the Prayer their own.
The Open the Book Team use the Lion Storyteller Bible written by Bob Hartman. The Year 1 stories run through from the ‘Creation’ Story to the ‘Ascension’. There is also a Year 2 and Year 3 Storybook which gives us an overall and balanced variety of Old Testament and New Testament stories.
