Reaching together... stand firm in your faith, be courageous and strong - 1 Corinthians 16:13

Here at Ivington CE Primary School the aim of history teaching is to stimulate the children’s interest and understanding about the life of the people who lived in the past. We teach children a sense of chronology, starting with the simple yesterday, developing on to awareness and understanding of the ways in which the past differs from the present. Through this we aim to foster a sense of identity and cultural understanding based on our historical heritage. We teach children to understand how events in the past have influenced our lives today, we encourage them to investigate these events and by doing so develop the skills of enquiry, analysis, interpretation and problem solving. We have rich historical resources on our doorstep and these are put to good use. Children regularly handle historical artefacts and we develop our studies using as many outside agencies as possible, for example, booking experiential workshop sessions with the Heritage Services and through trips, both local and residential. A study of local history and historical role play at Castell Henlyss in Pembrokeshire are highlights of our syllabus.
